EnterpriseDB Selected by Genscape for Energy Industry Inventory Analysis Solution

EnterpriseDB, the enterprise Postgres company, today announced that Genscape, provider of real-time power and natural gas supply information for the energy market, has selected and implemented Postgres Plus Advanced Server as the database for the collection of proprietary and public data on the North American natural gas market.

After a thorough examination and evaluation period, Genscape chose EnterpriseDB's Postgres Plus Advanced Server for its ability to handle a high-transaction environment, its compatibility with the company's existing database infrastructure, and the opportunity to substitute a higher cost tool with a scalable, enterprise-class open source database product.

"Because of spiraling database software costs, we began investigating alternatives for our existing database platform," said Steve Akers, CIO, Genscape. "The goal was to find a database that could meet our stringent requirements and also provide a low-cost alternative to what we had been using up to that point. With Postgres Plus Advanced Server, we found a solution that not only provided exceptional performance, but made it easy to migrate existing data, and also allowed us to extend the business since we were better able to control software costs."

Genscape is a leading global provider of energy information for commodity and financial markets. Utilizing patented technologies and proprietary algorithms, Genscape provides accurate and timely data on capacities, flow and utilization for all major energy commodities. The product range includes well known real-time services for power and gas in North America and Europe. Genscape also delivers fundamentals-based market intelligence services which market participants rely upon to better understand drivers, risks and dynamics of regional power and gas markets.

"EnterpriseDB has allowed Genscape to scale their solution in a very cost effective manner," said Ed Boyajian, president and CEO of EnterpriseDB. "But, cost alone is not the reason companies like Genscape adopt our platform; the performance, the features and the support we offer to users of Postgres Plus make it an increasingly attractive option for those seeking an enterprise-class RDBMS solution."
